It's barely noon and it's already 80-some-odd degrees outside. I have propped up at an unnamed Seattle-based coffee chain in Multnomah Village because this is the closest place to my house that a) has AC b) usually plays a good mix of Eddie Vedder and Johnny Cash and c) can keep me in the Pumpkin Spice Lattes I need to fuel my addiction for the next three months (what classifies as a substance abuse problem?)

There is something I need to get off my chest though:

Sum 41 postpones Manila concert

Sum 41 is postponing for an indefinite period of time the rest of the scheduled dates on their "Screaming Bloody Murder" 2011 tour which include October 16th, their Manila concert.

In a statement, Sum 41 said lead vocalist Deryck Whibley is currently undergoing treatment for a medical condition which was not divulged. Whibley's doctor has ordered him to start a rehabilitation program and to recuperate for the rest of 2011, the band added.

"We are all devastated that our best tour yet has been interrupted." said Drummer Stevo Jocz "Our band lives to be on stage and playing in front of our fans. We never want to let anyone down but the most important thing right now is that Deryck makes a full recovery so we can continue on next year . We’re working as fast as we can to reschedule these dates," Sum 41 said.

Sum 41 was scheduled to perform in a one-night concert at the A-Venue Concert Hall on October 16, 2011.

In her past interview, Kim's sister Khloe had said the video "was never meant to be played publicly. I've seen it. It's to die for. Her body is banging, baby. It's all just a little bit of history repeating (not)

No, I don't mean the London Mayoral election that will see Boris Vs Ken Vs Brian next year as it was in 2008.

No, I'm talking about tonight's Welsh football result.

A year tomorrow, Wales lost their opening Euro '12 qualifier away in Montenegro. It was the catalyst that brought be back to blogging a day later. That first blog post here lamented a lifetime of frustration in following the Welsh football team.

It didn't get better either as they went on to lose their next 3 qualification matches. The ignominy of being cast in the same qualifying pot for the 2014 World Cup draw as the likes of the Faroe Islands, Andorra and San Marino as a result, really is the lowest of the low.

But the talent is there and tonight, a year on, we managed to inflict on an impressive Montenegran side, their first defeat of the campaign in a worthy 2-1 win. The hope for Wales must now be that we can go on and overcome Bulgaria and Switzerland in the group to finish a respectable 3rd to give us momentum going into the World Cup qualifiers next September.

So, to cheer what was a rare but much welcome result for the Welsh football team, a tribute from one of our own.

I have come to the conclusion that I do not have nearly enough Bad Religion in my musical arsenal. Woke up this morning (feelin' fine, there's somethin' special on my mind... Oh, wow, wait, no... Herman's Hermits is not Bad Religion, musical ADD, moving on... B-B-BUH... Moving ON I say!)

This was the song I had in my head when I awoke (with birds singing, little deer and bunnies frolicking about the mossy forest floor that is my apartment, cherubs in the corners playing their harps and lutes, sweet little mice in Mad Men inspired duds ready to make my clothes and help me get dressed)...

(Ladies and gentlemen, I apologize, that last parenthetical was a complete fabrication... I woke up to the neighbors chicken, er, uh, roosters crowing at an ungodly hour, the deer and bunnies are instead just a misplaced desk chair and bunnies, yes, but of the dust variety, the forest floor is, in reality, just a slight film because I don't vacuum often enough, I made the cherubs leave because they were freaking me out and in my defense, I haven't been dressed by mice in years...And yes, Mad Men mice, I'm updating the classic here)

Rihanna has a new wax figure at Madame Tussauds, this time in Berlin, Germany. The said Rihanna's wax double came almost a year after when the first one was unveiled in the Washington, D.C branch of the museum.

Choose Philippines, an ABS-CBN-owned local tourism-driven social networking website, has launched the music video of its theme song "Piliin mo ang Pilipinas."

MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) 2011 Winners | Complete List

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) 2011 is being staged today at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The said awards give recognition to the top music videos and performances to singers and bands last year.

Just before the show started, MTV announced through its official website that Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Katy Perry and Adele already received awards. According to MTV, Lady Gaga was the winner of the newest award category, "Best Video with a Message" for "Born this Way" while Beyonce took home "Best Choreography in a Video" award for "Run The World."

Katy Perry, this year's most nominated artist, also received an award for "E.T." which is the "Best Special Effects in a Video."

Adele is so far the biggest winner since she already was awarded three (3) professional awards which include the "Best Editing in a Video", "Best Art Direction in a Video" and "Best Editing in a Video," all for her smash hit "Rolling in the Deep."

American singer Marie Digby has debuted the music video of her single "Your Love" online just a few hours ago. The said MV was shot in Tagaytay.

Lil Wayne accident update: rapper released from hospital

Lil Wayne got into an accident while skateboarding in St. Louis Sunday night, sustaining a wound over his left eye.

The rapper, 28, was immediately brought to a local hospital where he was treated and received nine (9) stitches to close his wound.



Recent reports say Lil Wayne was already released from the hospital.



Via his official Twitter, Lil Wayne said he gashed his left eye but he is now "good."



"The Lou was good but I busted my fuggin head at the sk8park! 9stitches! Gnarly gash over my left eye! Luv the people," Lil Wayne tweeted.

Thanks to my brother for sending this to me...pretty funny.

I have a decently vivid memory of a drive out to Bodega Bay somewhere between 8th grade and sophomore year of high school wherein my friends tortured me by playing country music the entire time. Being the wayward American Bandstand-er lost somewhere in the wrong musical generation that I was (in between teenyboppering too of course) I could not bear the twang and "my girl just left me so I'm going to go milk a cow" sentiment to just about every song I heard. Nothing too terribly against it... I just couldn't dig it.

An unfair generalization, yes. But I was thirteen (or possibly fifteen, like I said, decently vivid memory, not  a solid flashback) and had yet to finalize my taste in music.

Anyway, hit the double arrow to fast forward (or arrows and a vertical line to skip a few chapters ahead for the DVD generation) to college, now somewhere between sophomore year and senior year (timeline here more an ongoing thing than a specific incident) (what's that? more parentheticals you say? SURE!) (ok, this one's just for kicks, we're getting off topic...)

Where was I? Oh, yeah, country music. Meeting Blake meant the occasional Texan coming out and this in turn meant a dose of country (though to this day I have yet to hear to full expanse of his true Texas accent, despite so many margarita nights). Nights spent spazzed out on Blake's extra-long twin in his dorm room were often to the tune of Enya, various Disney classics or the occasional country classic. "Who's Your Daddy?" became a beloved sing-along with HRH belting it out in his fabulous baritone along with my now personal favorite "My Maria".

But that's a lot of backstory to bring things back around to my point here (bless you for sticking with the post thus far)...

So a friend of mine recently tuned me into Zac Brown Band and in spite of myself, things were sounding pretty good. My genre of choice has fallen into a sort of folk rock/folk punk direction with a little bluegrass thrown in for good measure so with ZBB not being too twangy I quickly found that I was keeping their album on repeat. Song after song I was totally into it and, gasp!, loving it! At first I only downloaded one album but was soon going back for more.

And in that second album, one song in particular hit dead home for me. I was leaving Mari's one night after one of the most meaningful nights of wine and conversation I've had in a long time and popped The Foundation into my car and headed home. The first song on that disc was "Let It Go" and following what Mari and I had just been talking about for the last three hours, I knew that God had carefully crafted this moment for me. He had done it so that I would hear exactly what I needed to hear exactly when I needed to hear it. (Funny how He does that, eh?)

The chorus goes as follows:

Ever since the proverbial ::cough:: expletive ::cough:: hit the fan back in April, I had been fighting things so hard and I was losing steam. London had helped beyond all measure and adequate adjectives, but there was still that little twinge in the back of my mind/heart/soul that wasn't freely giving up what had been taken from me. Incidentally, that was one of my earlier epiphanies about the whole break-up mess - in it all, I  found myself in no way doubting God's plan, but certainly not understanding what I did to deserve that swift hand of change. But it did bring me closer to Him and in doing so, made me look back over the stories that have comforted so many of the centuries. I returned to the story of Job and realized that if I was ever going to find comfort and peace of mind again, I would have to freely give up this thing that I had held so dear. 

But folks, we all know this is easier said than done (if I've done my job right, there should be a resounding "DUH!" echoing through your homes right now).

But what a thought, right? "Let It Go" had unknowingly just summed up the exact philosophy I was trying to put my finger on in order to move forward. "Save your strength for things that you can change, forgive the ones you can't..."! Wow. You all know the weight and importance that I give words and the power that they have for me, so to hear/read something so simply profound as these lyrics was practically a little religious experience itself! And I was so excited to have it!

And so I'll tuck that sweet chorus away in my canon and keep the advice close at heart. The song references those words being a "message from [his] father"... I think I'll put that thought in a box and show it to my children someday when it comes time for me to pass along a little bit of wisdom. Until then, I'll keep repeating it in my mantras.

Black Eyed Peas Live in Manila 2011

Harold Geronimo, a lifestyle columnist of Manila Standard Today, confirmed the news moments ago via his Twitter account.



"Confirmed: Another Black Eyed Peas concert in Manila this October! It will probably be in the new SM Arena!," Geronimo tweeted Monday.



In his other tweets, Geronimo revealed that he is currently in a meeting with BEP's Noypi member Apl.de.ap who is back in the country for some charity event.



The Black Eyed Peas has been doing their fifth concert tour "The Beginning Massive Stadium Tour" the past few months which kicked off in Paris last June. Most probably the said Black Eyed Peas Manila Concert 2011 will be part of the said tour which is in support of the group's sixth album, "The Beginning."

I'll Have to Say I Love You with a Song - Jim Croce

Ever heard of Jim Croce? Me neither. But on being a rather avid listener to Magic FM at home when there's nothing worth watching on the TV, I've come to hear his voice with a growing regularity.

Magic FM does have a tendency to play the same playlist of songs on what feels like a loop but then I like the songs that come up so I shouldn't really compain.

One of those that pops up keenly and which I've really grown to like is Jim Croce's 'I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song'.

For a keen musical connoisseur, his was a name that had never crossed my path before. Indeed when I first heard the song, it's regularity on the radio station made me think that it may have been a modern release but the sound just didn't sound 'current'. No, it was more of a 70s sound which was always pleasing on my ear.

On investigation, it turned out to be so. Between 1966 and 1973, Croce released six studio albums and 11 singles. His singles "Bad, Bad Leroy Brown" and "Time in a Bottle" were both number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Indeed, the former is a hit that I'm well versed with, but through the voice of Frank Sinatra who covered it. I hadn't realised that it was sung originally by Jim Croce.

But it's his 'I'll Have to Say I Love You in a Song' which I've taken too. It was actually released posthumously on December 1st 1973 after Croce and 5 others were killed in a commercial plane crash on September 20th. The song reached No.9 in the US Singles Chart.

Andrea Corr's Manila Concert is scheduled on October 16, 2011 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum while the Cebu concert will be held at the Waterfront Hotel on October 18, 2011.
